OBJECTS IN A STREAM
Location: Milwaukie Ledding Library, Milwaukie, OR
Medium: Various (14 individual artworks)
Dimensions: 23’ x 10’ x 4’
Year completed: 2020
This architecturally integrated artwork serves as a dividing wall between the adult and children sides of the Ledding Library. Fourteen angled and rectangular shaped “boxes” pass-through the beech cladded wall and stand 2” proud of the surface on each side. The internally illuminated pass-throughs contain hand made art objects and artworks that were gathered and conceptualized through community engagement and relate deeply to the library and culture of the city.

Beechwood-clad dividing wall, 14 objects and artworks
110” x 272” x 32”
Commissioned by Milwaukie Arts Commission, for Ledding Library in Milwaukie, Objects in a Stream pairs with Under a Sky Spread With Light. Under a Sky has a storytime mural, while Objects features a soundproof wall made in collaboration with Hacker Architects. The wall reclaims a beloved beech tree and separates sections between adults and children. It has a child-size door and 14 pass-through boxes that hold smaller artworks: local indigenous craft, archives, and new artwork from me. Here is a canoe mat creaser, abalone shell and cedar hat, building model, camas flowers, giant Bing cherry, and more.
